A “temp check” may be the easiest, most effective and efficient marriage communication method you will ever use. You don’t need an expensive counselor or lengthy how-to book. You don’t have to leave your house. You do need to schedule at least 20 minutes per week and learn the art of listening without fixing.

Being seen, heard and understood without judgment by the person we love is a bedrock emotional need. Take it from someone married 36 years to the same incredible yet mysterious (still haven’t figured her out) woman. Understanding women is hard work!

With life moving faster than a four-lane highway at rush hour, many couples get into a “crazy cycle.” They feel misunderstood, angry and increasingly lonely. Soon they are acting like “married singles.” Many separate. Some divorce and never heal.

That hasn’t happened to us.

My wife and I have found a weekly “temp check” highly effective in putting us on the road to marital unity, even harmony, and, yes, romance. It takes as little as 20 minutes per week! Think about that. In just 20 minutes, you can take your marriage to a higher level.
